FOOD ALLERGEN AND GLUTEN PROTOCOLS

While nobody can guarantee a level of zero risk; we have created strict allergen protocols to offer you products you can trust:

  • All ingredient suppliers must provide written declarations about what allergens/gluten are in their products and facilities
  • We conduct several allergen/gluten tests on all incoming raw ingredients plus random finished product testing using verified scientific procedures
  • We have strict shipping and receiving policies including tracing and tracking all ingredients
  • Staff training and contracts ensure that everyone from the office to shipping understands the severity of food allergies
  • All products are manufactured and/or packaged in our own dedicated facility
  • The Libre Naturals facility is 3rd party certified SQF Level 2 under the Global Food Safety Intitiative (GFSI) standard which includes audited allergen control and training programs

We have outlined below the top 11 common food allergens and gluten plus a couple of notes about flavours, latex and cross contamination.

THE TOP ELEVEN FOOD ALLERGENS and GLUTEN DECLARATIONS

Dairy
No ingredients containing dairy are used in the Libre Naturals facility. This includes all derivatives such as casein or whey. Cocoa butter is not dairy but is the fat of the cocoa bean.

Egg
No ingredients containing eggs are used in the Libre Naturals facility.

Fish
No ingredients containing fish are used in the Libre Naturals facility.

Gluten
No ingredients containing gluten are used in the Libre Naturals facility.  We were the first North American granola bar company to begin using gluten free oats in 2007 and all of our products are certified Gluten Free by the Gluten Free Certification Organization (GFCO) which has a standard of 10 parts per million (ppm), more stringent than the national standard of 20 ppm.

Mustard
No ingredients containing mustard are used in the Libre Naturals facility.

Peanut
No ingredients containing peanut are used in the Libre Naturals facility. All Libre Naturals staff members sign contracts to ensure they do not eat peanut products before work or bring them into any area of the Libre Naturals facility, including the lunchroom.

Sesame
No ingredients containing sesame are used in the Libre Naturals facility.

Shellfish
No ingredients containing shellfish (including crustaceans) are used in the Libre Naturals facility.

Soy
No ingredients containing soy or its derivatives (i.e. soy lecithin) are used in the Libre Naturals facility.

Sulphites
No ingredients containing sulphite preservatives are used in the Libre Naturals facility.

Tree nuts - (i.e. almonds, cashews, pecans).
No ingredients containing tree nuts are used in the Libre Naturals facility. All Libre Naturals staff members sign contracts to ensure they do not eat tree nut products before work or bring them into any area of the Libre Naturals facility, including the lunchroom.

Canada, where our manufacturing facility is located, does not list coconut as a tree nut but the USA does. In any case, we treat coconut as a tree nut declaration with all of our suppliers. No ingredients containing coconut are used in the Libre Naturals facility.

Wheat
No ingredients containing wheat are used in the Libre Naturals facility.

A Note About Flavours
All Libre Naturals granolas have flavours added to them that are indicated on the ingredient list as "natural flavour".  Please note that we do not add any additional flavours that are not already indicated in the name of the product. The kinds of flavours used are as follows:

Vanilla Cinnamon Granola: Vanilla

Vanilla Caramel Granola: Vanilla

Blueberry Maple Granola: Maple

Additionally, we closely adhere to all food allergen labeling regulations and would declare any of the top 11 allergens or gluten as an allergen warning if the flavours were to contain a top food allergen or gluten.

Latex
No latex gloves are used on any Libre Naturals production line. We use only medical grade, powder-free nitrile gloves.

CROSS CONTAMINATION

The Libre Naturals facility is organized into two separate lines that are not separated by walls.  Manufacturing schedules are set up to minimize cross contamination between different products and/or varieties but it may not be completely avoided.  If you would like to review what ingredients we use in our facility, please check out our Ingredients page.

Once you've determined that our product is safe for your special dietary needs, you can take pleasure in great taste but don't forget your overall health. Here are some healthy reasons why you'll want to enjoy this delicious granola bar:

  • The added fat in this product is from sunflower oil which is high in Vitamin E which is an antioxidant that helps protect our cells from free radicals.
  • Sunflower oil is very low in saturated fats
  • You've probably heard all about probiotics that are healthy bacteria that inhabit our digestive system but did you know that oats are a good prebiotic? All those little probiotics need to thrive and they do it by eating preobitics. So ingesting probiotics and prebiotics (like having probiotic yogurt with your granola bar) makes for a happy digestive system.
  • Although chocolate hasn’t yet been elevated superfood status in the science world, scientists recognize that flavanols in cocoa beans have antioxidant effects that reduce the cell damage associated with heart disease
  • Flavanols are more prevalent in dark chocolate and can help lower blood pressure and improve vascular function
  • Like all of our products, we use no genetically modified ingredients

The Easy Way to Open Libre Naturals Granola Bars

  • To open, first open the sealed fold on the back of the bar
  • Hold at the top and tear vertically down the back seal by starting along one of the zig zags
  • Once opened, this granola bar should be eaten although it may keep well in a sealed container or bag to be enjoyed within the week

Best Before Dates and Extending That Date Through Freezing

  • Instead of preservatives, we’ve used high quality packaging to give this bar its 1 year shelf life from the date of manufacture marked by a best before date on each package
  • Do you know the difference between expiry dates and best before dates?  Expiry dates are about food safety so the food should be opened and consumed within the time frame stamped on the product such as with milk.  Best before dates are about quality so the product should be eaten within the time frame stamped on the product so that it has its best flavor, moisture and consistency.
  • Beyond its best before date, you may not enjoy the bar as much but it doesn't contain harmful pathogens
  • This bar can be frozen, sealed in its packaging, under normal conditions for up to 6 months
  • Because it's like freezing the best before date in time, if you freeze the bar for 6 months, you can also extend its best before date by the same amount of time.

Shipping Options
Standard Ground (3 -10 business days):  Orders are shipped from our warehouse on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, by Canada Post expedited parcel service.  Weekends and holidays are not included in business days.  The total delivery time includes the time it takes to process your order plus actual shipping time.

Fedex Air (2 – 3 business days):  When you choose this option, the cost for air shipping will be determined by the Fedex quote system as visible on your checkout screen.  If it does not become visible as a shipping option along with the standard ground, that means Fedex Air is not available to your address.  Weekends and holidays are not included in business days.  The total delivery time includes the time it takes to process your order plus air shipment time which varies depending on whether you are in a major city with longer times outside of major urban areas. Air shipment is not offered with any free shipping coupons.

Delivery Times:  All deliveries by Canada Post take place during the business day during regular business hours.  If you are not home and the driver feels it is unsafe to leave a package, a notice will be left with instructions for redelivery or a pickup location which could also include a Superbox where your items may get overheated during the summer months (freezing during winter will not harm our products).  To avoid this, we suggest you ship to an address where someone is available to receive the delivery during business hours, such as your workplace.

If you order over the weekend, on a holiday or after 10 am on a business day, your order will not be processed until the next business day under normal business volume conditions.

Canada Post will only deliver to your door if you currently get door to door delivery service.  If your location is serviced by a Superbox, they may place your package in a larger box or may serve you with a notice of where to pick it up.  If your location is serviced only by PO box, please do not indicate your street address as your package will be undeliverable.

Order Cancellation and Changes
If you need to make a change prior to shipment, please contact us toll free at 1.866.714.5411 and quote your order number.  Order cancellations or changes to your order may not occur once an order has been shipped.

Change of Shipping Address
If you require the shipment address to be changed once an order has been shipped, you will be charged a redirection fee.  This fee is what the Canada Post charges us and ranges from $10 to $50 depending on your location.  Please ensure that you type in the correct shipping address upon checkout.

If the change of shipping is due to our mistake, you will have your order redirected to you at no charge.

Return Policy
For the safety of all Libre Naturals’ customers we do not return food items, regardless of their condition, therefore all sales at Libre Naturals are final.

Ingredients, nutrition and allergens for all Libre Naturals’ products are posted on each product's page, and it is a customer's responsibility to read and understand them, contact us to ask questions if necessary, and to select only those items that are safe for their specific diet.

Chocolate Shipment Policy
When shipping chocolate items, there is a risk of product damage during warm weather or when shipping to warmer climates. If you choose to ship any products that have chocolate in them, you assume the risk of this possibility when you place an order for those items with Libre Naturals Inc.

If granola bars do get overheated, the granola bars and chocolate should resume their shape if left to return to room temperature without being handled. The heat will not affect the taste or quality of the bars although long term shelf life may be compromised.

Any chocolate that has been heated and then cooled may get "bloom", a gray surface on the chocolate. Bloom is not harmful and does not change the quality of the chocolate; it's simply the cocoa fat coming to the surface of the chocolate. If bloom is visible on baking chocolate, it will disappear as soon as the chocolate is exposed to heat again upon baking.

Order Tracking
When your order is shipped from our warehouse, our shipping system will send you an email to confirm your shipment - this email will include a tracking number and link to enable you to track your package.

Missing Shipment
Unless you see unusual activity when tracking your package, please allow the full shipping time indicated above to elapse before contacting us about a missing shipment.  We can then work with Canada Post to track down your shipment.

If you have given permission for the driver to leave the shipment when you were not home, Libre Naturals is not responsible for the missing shipment. We strongly suggest that you provide a shipping address where you know someone will be present during the day. Many people choose to ship to their work address for this reason.

Damaged Shipment
With the exception of melted chocolate, if any package arrives damaged, refuse the package and have it sent directly back to us. Upon receipt of that package, we will replace the damaged contents and ship the replacement immediately with no additional cost to you.

Please notify us of your damaged shipment claim within 24 hours of the initial shipment with our customer care team at 1-866-714-5411 or at info@librenaturals.com.

Special Delivery Instructions
Unfortunately, Canada Post accepts only limited special delivery instructions.  We will place a note on the shipping documents if you indicate a request on your order but the driver may or may not heed those instructions.
